The annual BBYC Chili Cruise was held on Saturday, September 29th on the beach at the Lure. Thanks to Gary Felber who organized the event to all who brought food for the delicious chili potluck.
Gary also provided musical entertainment and led a sing-along around a warm campfire on a chilly fall evening. A great way to end the 2018 sailing season! |
The festivities started Saturday evening with a fabulous Corn Roast and Potluck. Special thanks to “roasters” Gary, Mike and Rick. And to Carolyn and others for helping with setup and logistics.
BEST "DAM" RACE IN WISCONSIN
SEPTEMBER 2, 2018
On Sunday, we were greeted by early rain. But we were determined, as “The Island” beckoned, and five boats competed in the 2018 BBYC Dam Race. Winds were adequate, making for steady progress down Lake Petenwell. Rains chased the fleet back to the finish at the Lure, where skies cleared for a classic sunset.
Race results:
Catamaran Class:
First Place – Hobie (Jim W. & Barry W.)
Cruiser Class:
First Place – “Plum 3” (Peter K., Monica P., Gary H. & Dave E.)
Second Place – “Evening Whisper” (Rick G., Ken N., Wayne G. & Peter M.)
Third Place – “Spirit” (Scotty, Doug D. & Bob G.)
Drinks, a dinner buffet and awards followed.
Thanks to all participants and volunteers who made the event a success, including Carolyn, Curt, Linda, Janie, Mayo, Sharon, Wayne (and his son) and other family/friends.
See you for Dam Race 2019!

CRAW - JUNE 16 & 17, 2018
Despite hot weather and variable winds, the 2018 CRAW (Catamaran Racing Association of Wisconsin) Regatta was a great success. Fourteen catamaran crews from through Wisconsin and beyond competed in seven races during the annual two-day event hosted by BBYC and the Lure.
Thanks to BBYC member Wayne Gjersvig for coordination, setup and chase boat. And thanks to Curt Frost and Rick Georgeson for skippering their sailboats for the race committee.
We received positive feedback from the racers, who all say Barnum Bay/Petenwell is their favorite venue of their season. We plan to see them back with us again next year.

MAY 5, 2018 - ICE BREAKER CINCO DE MAYO
On Saturday, May 5th, also known as Cinco de Mayo, we celebrated our new sailing season with a FIESTA!!!
Our Ice Breaker meeting/social had a Mexican theme, and everyone really got into the spirit, from the decorations, to the food, to the drinks! Linda, out outgoing Co-Commodore, treated us to a taco bar with all the fixings. Thanks to everyone who brought such delicious food to share. Dave and Mayo provided a festive bar, complete with margaritas in fancy glasses. Karl and Margarita made a pinata filled with candy and gift certificates from local restaurants. Everyone had fun trying to break it and reveal the prizes hidden inside. some lucky winners also went home with a flowering cactus! Co Commodores Curt and Linda Frost turned over the mainsheets to new Co Commodores Dave and Mayo Ewanowski. We welcomed new members, Hank and Pat Bruse and Peter Manley! We had 34 sailors in attendance. It was one of our most successful and fun parties. We all look forward to a great sailing season. |
Delicious spread of food was enjoyed by all

PARTY ON, SAILORS! |
CHILI CRUISE, OCTOBER 21, 1017
Our annual fall Chili Cruise was a rousing success and full of a few surprises, thanks to its organizer, Gary Felber. First of all, after a week's forecast predicting rain, the temperature was sunny and 75 degrees. People bought different varieties of chili, so instead of dumping these creations into one pot, we decided to keep them separate and savor each interesting flavor. Then to our astonishment, Gary brought out his guitar and harmonica and serenaded us throughout the evening. We sat by a lovely fire on the beach and enjoyed one of the last nice nights of autumn.
Thank you Gary and all who attended and contributed delicious food . Your efforts are appreciated by all. |
