The 2020 Covid Dam Race
The Dam Race this year was reduced to a Dam Sail due to Covid. We did not have any of our usual social activities (corn roast or after race dinner) for safety concerns. It did not stop several sailors from sailing that Saturday due to a better weather forecast. The winds were moderate but it was a pretty day. Three boats sailed around the island: Gary Felber and Mike Prissel Julie and Denise sailed Windborne, Rick Georgeson sailed with Wayne Gjersvig in Evening Whisper and Dave and Mayo Ewanowski and Peter and Monica Kovacevich sailed in Plum 3. There were other sailboats out on the lake as well but not entire sure who all they were. I believe there were 7 sailboats out on the lake at one time!! Although Covid tore up our usual activities, it was still good to be out on the lake with other sailors. Rick Georgeson had so much fun sailing around the island that he did a repeat run on Monday (Labor Day) with Peter Manley.
Hopefully next year we will all be able to get back to our usual activities including the social parts. In the meantime, stay healthy. Let’s all get through this winter and look forward to a less scary 2021!

Another great sailing day!!BBYC members took advantage of perfect winds last weekend and had a wonderful sail on Lake Petenwell. Dave and Mayo Ewanowski sailed their boat, Rick Georgeson manned the helm on his boat and Scotty Scott sailed with Bob Gause.

Due to the present circumstances of social distancing, our annual Ice Breaker Meeting, our annual Ice Breaker was held on Zoom. Twenty one members were in attendance. It was wonderful to see our sailing friends smiling back at us. We're all in this together.
Our Commodores for the past two years, Dave and Mayo Ewanowski, presided over the meeting and we talked about events for the coming year and changed a few of our policies. Highlights of the meeting:

We want to invite all sailors to be part of our club. We want to welcome Cats as well as Cruisers. Being a member has advantages - such as no registration fee for the Dam Race. Therefore, the dues this year will be $10 per person or $15 per couple. It's a deal you can't pass up! To join or rejoin, click on the JOIN NOW button at the top of the page. at Barnum Bay on a date to be determined once it is safer to be together.
This is a great event - fun to watch and be part of. And we need your help to make it a success.

END OF THE YEAR ACTIVITIES 2019

Hi BBYC members,
Just a recap of last fall’s events: The Dam Race was well attended however the wind never really showed up. The day was lovely but the boats didn’t appreciate it so they sat still in the water. We had some sailors who were able to finish: Jim Wanta and Barry Winters in the catamaran category, Jeff and Heath Reabe in the cruiser category and Dennis Gamble and Kurt Sims in the centerboard category. The remainder of the boats: Rick Georgeson, Ken Norton and Peter Manley on Evening Whisper, Dave Ewanowski, Monica Plummer, Peter Kovacevich, and Gary Hartung on Plum 3, Bob Gause, Scotty and Doug Dannen on Minji, Clyde Fuhrmeister and Ron Callan on Clyde’s (unnamed) boat, and Gary Felber, Mike and Denise Prissel on Windborne all were unable to get to the finish line. Despite the wind not blowing we did enjoy our meal at the Lure together. Another Dam race in the books! The traditional corn roast the night before the race was well attended. Thanks to Gary Felber, Mike Prissel and Rick Georgeson for roasting the corn. Thanks also for all the attendees and the lovely potluck. The heck with sailing when you can have a great meal on the beach! In October we met on the beach at Barnum Bay for the Chile cook off. It turned out to be a lovely night with a nice mixture of variously chili concoctions. Mike Prissel and Gary Felber got a nice fire going which we sat around and enjoyed while being entertained by Gary’s guitar and singing show. Gary and Julie and her granddaughter, Mike and Denise, Rick Georgeson, Janie Raab, Fred Felix and Mayo Ewanowski enjoyed the night. |
