IN MEMORIAM - JUDY GAUSE - 1946 - 2015

On November 4, 2015, we lost our dear friend Judy Gause in a tragic accident.  Judy and her husband Bob, avid sailors, have been members of the BBYC for over 20 years, serving together as Vice Commodore and Commodore.  Judy was always willing to help with group activities and opened their home on many occasions when the weather didn’t cooperate.  They organized and serviced as hosts for the annual Summer Sailtice, a popular and well attended pot luck and overnight raft up.

Judy and Bob lead a very active lifestyle with a wide range of interests not only sailing but kayaking, camping, biking, running/walking and traveling the world.  Judy impressed everyone by taking up running after retiring.  She competed in a number of 5 kilometer races every year, often winning her age bracket.

Exploring the world was a passion Judy and Bob shared.  Their travels took them to numerous locations in Europe, Australia, Asia, and South America.  They accompanied fellow sailors chartering in the Caribbean multiple times and on Traverse Bay in Michigan.

Judy was proudest of her children and nine grandchildren seldom missing an opportunity to attend their various activities and family functions.  Their home is filled with wonderful family photos.

We will all remember Judy for her warm smile, quick wit, and adventurous spirt.  She brought a lot of fun and laughter into our lives and will be missed by everyone who knew her, especially her best friend Bob.

A memorial has been set up with the Wisconsin Rapids School District in Judy’s name to purchase children’s books.  As a reading recovery teacher, Judy knew the importance of children developing a love of reading.  This is a fitting and enduring tribute to Judy.
